The Week Junior Science+Nature
Scavenger Hunt photo competition 2022

Let the adventure begin! Our annual summer photo competition starts here.

Summer holidays are here, so it’s time to get outside with your young people, go wild and win prizes with The Week Junior Science+Nature’s Scavenger Hunt. This competition challenges your children to find and photograph natural treasures for a chance to win a Canon PowerShot Zoom camera worth £299 and a book bundle worth £60.

Your challenge!

Like any scavenger hunt, the task is to track down five things (see the categories below) your children might spot outdoors. However, they don’t need to take anything home – all they need to do is send a photo of their favourite find to us.

The photo competition

From luscious landscapes to tall trees, cute creepy-crawlies and beautiful butterflies, the judges are looking for colourful images that show beauty in nature. The photos will be judged on composition, colour and creativity.

How to enter

Enter using the form below. You’ll need to get your child’s submissions in by 11.59pm on 31 August 2022. Winners will be announced in issue 53 of The Week Junior Science+Nature, on sale on 17 September 2022.

If you have any issues with entering this competition please email the Science+Nature team at hello@science-nature.co.uk.

The Scavenger Hunt categories

1. Tiny heroes

Seek out insects, minibeasts and animals in action.

2. Wet and wild

Can you find a mighty waterfall, a babbling brook, crashing waves, a rock pool, or dew on a spiderweb?

3. Nature and people

Spot nature in urban areas. How about people having outdoor adventures or a photo taken on your hunt?

4. Signs of summer

The things that tell you that summer is here – flowers, flitting butterflies and chirping grasshoppers.

5. Natural treasures

Search for a wonder of nature – towering tree, a rainbow or a shiny pebble. Nature is full of surprises.

What you can win

The overall winner will receive an incredible Canon PowerShot Zoom (RRP £299). In addition, all winners and runners up will receive a brilliant nature book bundle worth £60. The winning pictures will be printed in the September issue of The Week Junior Science+Nature.

Judging criteria

Photos will be judged on composition (eye-catching, well-composed photographs that have been shot with skill), colour (vibrant colours, striking patterns and interesting shapes) and creativity (originality and imagination shown through the camera lens), as well as how well the entry reflects the theme of the category into which it has been entered.
